Clinical Guidance for Treating Pregnant and Parenting Women with Opioid Use Disorders and Their Infants

September 13-14, 2021

Team members Kay Connors, MSW, LCSW-C, Sylvia McCree-Huntley, EdD, Kelly Coble, LCSW-C, and Sarah Edwards, DO, along with the Maryland Addiction Consultation Service (MACS) and the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, all of the Department of Psychiatry, gathered together to spearhead a virtual, two-day conference on September 13-14 to help medical professionals improve the identification and treatment of expectant and new moms with opioid use disorder (OUD).

Audience: primary care physicians, gynecologists and obstetricians, addiction specialists, nurses, and counselors.

Areas of focus: approaches and levels of personalized treatment plans, techniques for screening and treatment, options of medications like buprenorphine, and improved processes for streamlined collaborative care. 

Collaborators: The statewide effort was joined by the Opioid Operational Command Center; Maryland Department of Health’s Behavioral Health Administration; Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services; and the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Services, UMSOM.
